Salento Bici Tour and Linfa, as part of a public project funded by “SAC Salento di Mare e di Pietre”*, are launching the 9th edition of our design and creativity Youth Eco-camp.

The workshops will be based at the “Slow mobility Centre”, in the Ex-Colonia Stajano of Lido Conchiglie, (municipality of Sannicola, Lecce, Italy) Googlemap.

The activities will mainly take place outdoors at the centre, with the participants sleeping in tents and being invited to involve themselves fully in the camping lifestyle.

The aim is to furnish the “Slow mobility centre”, a place whose main aim is to promote the use of the bicycle as an expression of equality and sustainability.

* “SAC Salento di Mare e di Pietre” represents the common policy of 14 municipalities around Gallipoli with regard to cultural and environmental issues. It aims to support small cultural heritage projects (museums, libraries, creative spaces, etc) and natural and environmental parks, and to promote ways of connecting them through sustainable mobility services.

Art. 1  WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:

The workshop is open to anybody 18 years or above, after sending a project proposal in accordance with Art.2 (below).  University students or recent graduates of design schools, academies of fine arts, architecture and the eco-design industry are particularly encouraged to apply. Project proposals can also be sent on behalf of a group; in this case, a representative of the group will be named the contact person and, in case of an equal score with other proposals, priority will be given to the group.

Art. 2 THEME:

The workshop aim is to achieve several end-products: to construct dividing panels in the indoor open space (cycling one side, bar the other side)  bicycle racks, tables and chairs for the open air food and drink area, areas for relaxation in the shade, signage and waste collectors. The idea is that these products will contribute to raising awareness among locals and tourists about good, sustainable practices towards the environment.

In order to select the two teams of participants for the two weeks (one team each week) prospective participants should send an up-cycling project idea focused on this space. A formal project proposal is not required; all that is required is your concept, briefly outlined and illustrated with a sketch, a drawing or a photo and a brief description of how you think to re-use the available materials in order to make a design-cycling friendly, final product. We recommend wood as the main material, recycled from old pallets, old furniture, tree trunks, branches and other pruning waste.

The proposed objects will be analysed to understand their actual feasibility, and must be easy, “do-it-yourself” projects.

Art. 3 TO TAKE PART, WHAT TO DO:

Also attach information about yourself (or group) and why you feel motivated to take part in this experience.

So, please, in order to apply, send:

Art. 4 EVALUATION CRITERIA:

The project proposals will be submitted to a panel that will decide the number of workshop participants; these will also be selected according to the tasks to be assigned within the team; the total number of participants will not exceed 25 for each week.

The judging panel will be composed of artists, designers, and professionals in the field of ecological and sustainable design.

Projects will be scored (max.40 points) according to these criteria:

- correspondence with the theme and with the ecological/sustainable values of the workshop (10 pt);

Participants will, however, be responsible for their own travel to and from Salento, Italy.

Note that selection to participate does not  imply that your proposed product/project will necessarily be realized. Participants will have been selected according to their proposed projects and personal motivation, but we will then work as a team at the workshop to decide the final product designs, influenced both by those proposals and the materials available. The participation at the workshop implies the membership to Linfa "Associazione Culturale" and the acceptance of its values and rules (Statuto: sorry, only italian version). The membership quote is 30 for a new member, 20 euro for the 2016 renovation of it.

Art. 6 RELATED EVENTS:

Art. 7 COPYRIGHT:

Authorship rights (of project proposals or final products realized) will be absolutely guaranteed. All works will, however, also be attributed to Linfa as the organization coordinator of the initiative.

The use of works for profit is forbidden, unless with the express consent and in collaboration with the working team that gave birth to them.

Please do not send projects already known or belonging to someone else, as this would make it difficult or impossible to create collaborative aspects between participants and with partner companies.
